Vases
Many people may not realize it, but selecting a proper vase for your flowers is very important. A vase that is too large can cause the flowers to lean to one side. This can turn your beautiful bouquet into an eyesore. The size of the vase should be around one-third to one-half the width of the arrangement.
Sometimes it's ok to place small bouquets in tall skinny vases. This works best when dealing with flowers that tend to droop.

Treat Your Guests to Flowers
Preparing your home for guests can be stressful! If you are having people over soon, a well placed bouquet may be what you need. Placing flowers in a guests' bedroom or bathroom can make them feel like you've gone out of your way to make them feel special.Sometimes when preparing for guests we have so much to do that we end up skipping small details. A floral arrangement can divert attention from small oversights such as walls that are in need of a fresh coat of paint. This is referred to as spot decorating.

Monster Orchid
A giant orchid that is roughly the size of a small car bloomed for the second time at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. This is quite a feat considering the fact that there are maybe a handful of growers in the world capable of cultivating it.
Often referred to as the Queen Orchid, Tiger Orchid and Leopard Orchid, this particular plant is 12 feet in diameter and weighs around 200 pounds. In the wild it grows in the crotches of trees over 100 feet in the air. Due to the unique habitat the plant is accustomed to, botanists have kept the plant potted in a basket that hangs high in the air over a small pond. The last time this plant was re-potted it took five people, a rope and a pulley to place it in the new pot.
Soon the orchid will produce a seed capsule the size of a football. The capsule will contain over 2 million seeds which may be sold to other botanists who are interested in cultivating this monstrosity.

Flowers and Pet Owners
If you're a pet owner you know as well as I do that it's hard to keep them out of everything. I know my dog doesn't let anything or anyone get into his house without it passing inspection. One thing to remember when bringing any plants or flowers home is that there are flowers that can be harmful to pets if ingested. To be safe, try and keep all flowers out of your pets reach. You could always go the extra mile for your pet and familiarize yourself with which flowers are harmful and which are not.

Flower Dreams
In a recent study, German scientists tested the effects scents can have on someone who is dreaming. Researchers had 15 different people go to sleep and recorded their dreams afterward. While some were sleeping the smell of rotten eggs was pumped into the room, while others were given the smell of roses. These scents were picked due to the fact that they are powerful, but would not irritate the nasal passages causing the person to wake up. Some rooms had no smell at all for control purposes. Those who were given the rotten egg scent had dreams that were emotionally negative, while those that slept with the rose smell in the room had positive dreams.
Researchers feel like this can give us significant insight on how our surroundings affect our moods. If a smell can have an effect on your emotions in a dream, imagine what odors can do to you without you even knowing it! I plan to keep a bouquet of flowers in my room from now on!
